South Lake Primary School, Wokingham

Sarah learned the piano and viola from a young age, and music has always been her passion. Having studied Music at GCSE and A Level (including Music Technology), she then went on to achieve a Bachelor of Music degree at Royal Holloway, before starting her Primary PGCE.

Sarah has led music at South Lake Primary School for over 10 years; in that time, the school’s music provision has gone from strength to strength and the school now has a thriving musical culture. She particularly prides herself in her ability to support non-specialist colleagues to deliver music lessons for their classes, through careful planning of the curriculum and delivery of CPD sessions.

Additionally, she is passionate about leading singing (whole school assemblies, choirs and flashmobs). Alongside this, she is a keen member of SingSpace Musical Theatre Choir, where she gains knowledge of vocal health and technique as well as experiencing the joy of performing.

Sarah can coach in primary curriculum design (particularly with generalist teachers in mind), planning for progression, supporting/training generalist teachers in teaching music, racial equity in the music curriculum, promoting whole-school singing, leading primary school choirs, music technology in the primary school, and empowering and developing the confidence of non-specialists.

Sarah has successfully mentored several trainee teachers (PGCE, SCITT and BAEd) and has completed the NPQLT. She has led multiple music and non-music CPD sessions for South Lake staff and staff in other schools.  She has also supported and coached a colleague from another school in starting their racial equity development journey.
