Quick Win – Silly warm ups for reluctant singers

Singing is a brilliantly accessible activity for the music classroom, no matter what age you are teaching. However, some students are nervous about singing in class, particularly in secondary school. These vocal warm-ups are fun, silly, and don’t involve any actual singing – perfect for warming up the reluctant class! I have used them from EYFS to KS3, in class music and extra-curricular activities, and have rarely found a child or class who can resist them.

It’s not just fun- all of the sounds and actions in these warm ups will help your students to warm up their vocal cords and all of the muscles they will use for singing, ensuring that they stay in tip-top vocal health!

Bubble Gum Man

The bubble gum man goes for a walk, and gets up to all kinds of mischief. Click here to see him in action!

Students love choosing which floor the bubble man goes to (infinity usually features!) and suggesting what happens when the bubble gum man jumps out of the window. Once they’ve done this warm up a few times, they will enjoy leading it, too.

The Cake Spell

This cake spell goes horribly wrong, resulting in a queasy tummy! But don’t worry, you can get it right the second time around!
