Stuart Barker

Stuart Barker is a creative Double and Electric Bassist and teacher of music, always looking at different methods of teaching and playing to get the most out of myself, and those around me. Stuart graduated from the BMus Jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2014 soon after receiving the Jazz Course Prize. During his career since graduation, Stuart has found himself involved in a whole host of different playing and teaching settings.

 

Stuart has played with established musicians including Simon Spillett, Clark Tracey, Tina May and a miming performance with Andreas Bochelli. Stuart regular performs at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The 606 and The Piano Bar Soho. Stuart has also enjoyed tours in Scandinavia, and across the seas on the Queen Mary 2.

Stuart’s teaching career has led him to work on the Jazzline summer school, The Laurie Holloway school and schools such as Leighton Park. Stuart enjoys teaching all aspects of bass playing and is a keen theory researcher and tutor. Stuart has also taught in mental health settings and continues to take an interest in how music can be used in therapy. Stuart also enjoys time on his Kayak, Mountain Biking going to concerts.
