Announcing Alumni Launchpad 2025–26

We’re excited to launch Alumni Launchpad, a new career and development initiative designed to support young creatives aged 18–25 as they step into further education, the creative industries, or build a portfolio career. This three-part series combines online workshops with an in-person networking event, offering insights from professionals across classical and contemporary fields.

For just £20 a year, participants gain access to all sessions — including practical advice, industry guidance, and valuable connections. Whether you’re exploring freelance work, digital content, or professional music careers, Launchpad is here to help you navigate your next chapter.

Kat Hatton

I grew up immersed in music in Okehampton, and although I stepped away from music during early adulthood, moving to Reading reignited my passion through local orchestras. Now, as a Berkshire Music Trust parent and trustee, I see the transformative power of music every day — from playing with my children to rediscovering technique through lessons. Music shapes my life, offering rest, connection, and essential skills that carry into my career. It’s never too late to return to music.

Joseph May

I’m Joseph May, a former BMT student now studying viola at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. BMT gave me invaluable experience in ensembles like BYSO and BYSE, and helped me grow as a performer and person. I’ve since played with the National Youth Orchestra and am now thriving at conservatoire with orchestral, chamber, and vocal opportunities.

Matthew Prior

Former student Matthew Prior reflects on his experiences, sharing memorable moments from his musical journey. We hope you enjoy this personal glimpse into the impact of music education and the valuable lessons learned along the way.

Alice Carroll

Alice has recently embarked on an exciting new chapter, beginning her degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Her story offers a glimpse into life beyond the Berkshire Music Trust and how the musical journey continues to flourish.
