Kennet School, Thatcham

Abigail is a clarinettist, pianist and saxophonist with a BMus from Cardiff University and PGCE (Secondary Education) and MA (Music Education) from The University of Reading. Abigail is a dedicated and experienced music teacher at Kennet School in Thatcham, where she has been a valued member of the thriving music department for the past eight years. Kennet School is one of the few in the region to offer Music Technology at A-Level, with the subject also integrated into the Key Stage 3 and 4 curricula.

At Kennet, Abigail has played a central role in delivering high-quality concerts, school productions, and music tours, enriching the cultural life of the school community. She recently founded the highly successful Rising Stars Choir – a summer term initiative designed specifically for Year 6 students who hold Year 7 places at Kennet. The choir offers a vibrant and welcoming introduction to the school’s musical life, helping new students build confidence and a sense of belonging.

Outside the classroom, Abigail is an active musician who enjoys performing as a clarinettist with the Newbury Symphony Orchestra. She is also passionate about composing, particularly video game music, having previously contributed to the soundtrack for RuneScape.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Abigail serves as a Professional Learning Coach and Early Career Teacher (ECT) Mentor. In these roles, she brings a wealth of experience in supporting and guiding colleagues at various stages of their careers, fostering professional development and promoting excellence in teaching across the school.

Abigail has a particular interest in harnessing music technology as a tool to broaden access to music education. She seeks to create inclusive learning environments where students from all backgrounds can engage with and enjoy music, regardless of their prior experience or resources. By integrating technology into her teaching, Abigail aims to remove barriers and open up new creative opportunities for every learner.
