Space To Thrive is now open in Maidenhead!
Berkshire Music Trust was delighted to officially launch Space To Thrive, a new community music centre based at Newlands Girls’ School in Maidenhead, created in partnership with Slough Music Service, on Saturday 10 January 2026.
The event began with an uplifting performance from BMT’s Initial and Let’s Play Bands, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Royal Borough Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sian Martin.
Over 100 guests enjoyed an exciting programme of live performances, workshops and Have A Go musical activities throughout the day. Performers included Newlands’ Swing Band, Slough Youth Orchestra and Slough Youth Choir, alongside inspiring workshops delivered by Tankata Percussion, Syncquest.uk and Soul Sistas Slough.
Space To Thrive is Maidenhead’s new home for community music – a welcoming, inclusive space where people of all ages and abilities can make music, connect with others and feel a sense of belonging. The centre will host a wide range of activities, including DJ workshops, relaxed jam sessions for young people, global music nights, community drumming and a community jazz collective.
Dawn Wren, CEO of Berkshire Music Trust, said: “Even if you haven’t done anything with music before, you can access it, try it out, and see if it is for you.”
Jo Capon, headteacher at Newlands Girls’ School, added: “It’s fantastic for the community, and it’s fantastic for the school.”
