Berkshire Music Trust launches new Community Music Centre Space to Thrive in Maidenhead
Berkshire Music Trust is excited to launch Space to Thrive, a welcoming new community music centre based at Newlands Girls’ School in Maidenhead, created in partnership with Slough Music Service.
Designed to make music accessible for everyone, Space to Thrive offers relaxed, inclusive opportunities to make music, meet others and feel part of a creative community – proudly reflecting our mission of Making Music for Everyone.
The programme has been shaped by local voices, with input from a community steering group and young people, ensuring activities truly reflect the interests and needs of the Maidenhead community. From community drumming and intergenerational jam sessions to DJ workshops, Chill Jam for teens, global music nights and a jazz collective, Space to Thrive is a place where music has no barriers.
There is also a strong focus on inclusion and wellbeing, with specialist sessions for children and young people with SEND, music for mental health projects, and monthly Taster Cafes for anyone curious to give music a try.
Jamie Read, Partnership and Inclusion Manager at Berkshire Music Trust, said:
“Being entrusted with launching Space to Thrive alongside my brilliant colleague Laura Bridger and the team has been a real joy. The engagement and interest from the local community has filled me with hope for what this project can achieve! We’ve set out to make this project as inclusive as possible from the start, from engaging locals in our community advisory board through to employing local young musicians to give them a voice in the process, and I really hope that everyone will feel welcome to come and give the activities a try.”
Space to Thrive is Maidenhead’s new home for community music – a place to connect, create and belong.
The centre will officially open with a launch event on Saturday 10 January, from 10am–1pm, and everyone is warmly invited to attend, explore the space and enjoy some music-making.
